Woodlake Migrant Education Even Start (MEES) - Family Literacy Program

The Woodlake MEES - Family Literacy Program is a collaborative program of the Woodlake Elementary School District and the Tulare County Office of Education Migrant Education Program Region VIII. Participants are Woodlake families with children under the age of 7 who want to improve their English language skills, prepare for the GED, or enter a job training program. Families must be willing to participate in regular program activities, attending at least 85% of the classes, and must qualify as low income. All services are funded through an Even Start grant. There is no charge to families who meet the Even Start guidelines.

Goals
  • Focus on family's strengths.
  • Help parents become full partners in the education of their children.
  • Assist children in reaching their full potential as learners.
  • Increase the educational level and employability skills of parents.
  • Strengthen parent's knowledge and skills in helping their children grow and learn.
  • Increase reading and writing activities between parents and children.
