Chef in the ClassroomChef Sara Brown
My name is Chef Sara Brown and I am a graduate of the California Culinary Academy in San Francisco, June 1994. I have worked in many capacities as a chef, from assisting a French pastry chef, to a private chef on a yacht, to high-end restaurants throughout California.
Currently, I am teaching nutrition and conducting cooking demonstrations for local school districts, highlighting the advantages of local and seasonal fruits and vegetables. I am a married mother of four very busy, young children and enjoy handing down my love of food and nutrition to my family and friends. I enjoy gardening and outdoor activities with my family. Chef Bill Coombs
I've worked in the food service industry since 1976 in fast food and casual dining operations, as well as private and public schools. During my 20 years of military service, I was assigned to numerous facilities directing the preparation and service of meals to 300-6000 personnel three times daily.
I have a fine dining background and have completed numerous culinary schools around the country, including Monterey Peninsula College in Monterey, California; California Culinary Academy in Salinas, California; Cook Street Cooking Academy in Denver, Colorado; and Olympic College in Bremerton, Washington. I believe that all children deserve balanced, nutritious meals. I work with partners that collaboratively bring such programs to schools. I eagerly incorporate locally grown seasonal, organic and sustainably-produced food products into the menu and offerings that I have developed. I am currently partnered with Tulare County Office of Education's School Health Program, Keeping California Families Healthy.
